Local embroidery shop vs mail-order embroidery
We run a mail-order embroidery brand, so take this with that in mind. Still, a local shop is the right call for some jobs. Here is where each one wins, from Battle Born Clothing's point of view.

When a local shop wins
You need it this week
A local shop with an open machine can sometimes stitch a dozen hats by Friday. Our standard turnaround is 28 days from proof approval. Rush is quoted per job and depends on the schedule.
You want to touch fabric
If you need to feel three polos before you pick one, walking into a showroom is easier. We can describe the blank, and you can order a single sample at the 1-11 tier.
You want to meet face to face
Some buyers just prefer it. That is a fair reason.
When ordering from us wins
You want the price before the call
Our tiers are published: $12.00 per piece at 1-11 down to $4.00 at 80+, caps $1 more, digitizing $18.99 once. You can work out an order on our pricing page before you talk to anyone.
You have an odd quantity
No hard minimum. Nine jackets are fine. So are 300 hats.
You want leather patch hats
Battle Born Clothing has engraved leather patches on an 80-watt CO2 laser since 2020. Many local embroidery shops do not have a laser.
You need a premium brand
We are an authorized decorator for Carhartt, Nike and OGIO.
How to compare quotes fairly
- Ask for the all-in price per piece: blank plus embroidery.
- Ask for the stitch count the price assumes.
- Ask what one-time fees apply (digitizing, setup).
- Ask about the proof and what happens if the shop makes an error.
- Add shipping to our number and compare.
Whichever you choose, send clean vector art and a size list. That is what makes any embroidery job go well.
Questions to ask any embroidery shop
Whether you call a shop down the street or send a form to us, the same questions sort out a good quote from a vague one. Ask them in the first message and you will get comparable answers.
- What is the blank price and what is the embroidery price, separately?
- How many stitches does the price assume, and what does each extra 1,000 cost?
- Is there a minimum, and what does a small order cost per piece?
- Is digitizing charged once or on every order? Who keeps the file?
- Will I see a proof before anything is stitched?
- What happens if the shop makes an error?
- What is the turnaround from approval, and is shipping extra?
Our answers are on this site: blank and embroidery are listed separately on every product page, the base covers 6,000 stitches, there is no hard minimum, digitizing is $18.99 once and we keep the file, every job gets a proof, errors on our side are redone free, and turnaround is 28 days from approval plus ground shipping.
A worked comparison
Say you need 24 polos with a left-chest logo. From us that is 24 Port Authority K500 at $19.55 = $469.20, plus $18.99 digitizing = $488.19, plus ground shipping to your state. Ask your local shop for the same item, same stitch count and same fees, and compare the totals side by side. If the local number is close and you need it next week, go local. If it is not, or you want leather patch hats in the same order, send it to us.
Questions
Is a local shop always faster?
Not always, but a local shop with open capacity can beat a 28-day standard turnaround. Our rush is quoted per job.
Can I order one sample first?
Yes. One piece is priced at the 1-11 tier.
